The record for Leyland Cross

Here is the link to the Lancashire Heritage Explorer (LHE), an interactive map highlighting selective records from the Lancashire Historic Environment Record (HER). Created by the Lancashire Historic Environment Team, it was recently launched via the County Councils Facebook and X social media channels.

The LHE is live on the County Council's ArcGIS Online portal and can be viewed here: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/f3d2713cfdc14e3a80976902c4fc55d9.

A link to the LHE is also available via the HER webpage on the County Council's website:  https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/planning/historic-environment-record/. The LHE features the monument type and the location of records (i.e. core information), plus there is also some value-added content on the webpage. The site is geared towards Lancashire residents, community groups and schools (rather than for planning related functions) and it is proposed to be updated quarterly.

If your research identifies any sites not recorded on the LHE or if you think you may have additional information regarding any existing records, I would be very grateful if you could email details to: archaeology@lancashire.gov.uk and then records can either be created or updated, as appropriate. I'm interested in any historic environment data, and in particular that relating to Leyland Motors sites, as I suspect it is an area underrepresented on the HER. If you were able to supply any information, it would be much appreciated if you could include an address, a brief description of what the site is and - if possible - a grid reference to help locate exactly where it is.
