Leyland Historical Society
HERITAGE CENTRE 2024.
THE CENTRE WAS DUE TO CLOSE ON 9TH NOVEMBER, HOWEVER THE COUNCIL HAS STEPPED IN AND THE CENTRE WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR ANOTHER THREE MONTHS
The Leyland Historical Society celebrated their 50th Anniversary back in 2018 taking over an empty shop at 55 Hough Lane for a pop up Heritage Centre Here we launched the Industrial Heritage Oral History Project which so far has led to 278 interviews taking place.
The Historical Society has done it again so from Saturday 31st August for ten weeks, the Heritage Centre was open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am until 4 pm to display the history of Leyland and what we have discovered in the last six years.
As we were preparing to close in the first week of November, South Ribble Borough Council has stepped in and provided further funding to enable the Society to continue with the Heritage Centre for a further three months. This time we will be open to the public, Thursday to Saturday thereby enabling the schools to send groups, Monday to Wednesday as required. It will also give the chairman a chance to get some of his life back
The Society have taken over No 14 Hough Lane formally No 6 Hope Terrace (next to Lloyds Bank) so we hope to see many of the Leyland Memories, Historical Society members and non members as we can.
As part of the Centre we have documented the story of each of the shops along Hope Terrace from Thurston Road to Sumner Street and are to display the findings in each of the current businesses as well as in the Heritage Centre.
If you have any photographs of Leyland through the ages please bring them along as we can scan them on the premises and return them straight away.
